We all know walking is good for us. There are so many reasons why we should be doing more walking. And so many excuses why we don't walk. It's time to ditch the excuses and get moving! Common excuses used for not walking- No time- Seriously, you can't find a half-hour or an hour to do something good for yourself? Taking care of yourself should be a top priority. You would be surprised at how good you will feel after a walk. It's boring- What is boring about enjoying the sunshine and fresh air? Enjoying some scenery. Maybe even chat with a neighbor along the way. Or better yet, find a walking partner to make it a bit more enjoyable for you. And try reminding yourself how good it is for you. I'm too tired. A pleasant walk will give you an energy boost, so get out and get some fresh air. I will use the treadmill. More people use that treadmill for hanging their clothes on than for actual exercise. The only activity might be when you have to dust it off. So now that we have some of the more common excuses out of the way, let's move on. The Benefits of taking a daily walk Improves your digestion- Once you get into a regular walking routine, you will find yourself becoming more consistent in your bathroom habits—no need for those over-the-counter constipation remedies. It's good for your heart and lungs. Aerobic activity gives your heart and lungs a workout that will strengthen them. Getting into a daily walking habit is just what the doctor ordered. It's a mood changer. Boosting endorphins does great things for your mood and helps combat stress. It helps curb chocolate cravings. I guess I will need to do a lot of walking. Maybe two or three daily walks will end my chocolate addiction. It's definitely worth a try. Burn some calories and maybe lose a couple of pounds. Sounds good. Walking improves balance and builds strong bones—another essential benefit for the elderly. You will sleep better. Studies have confirmed that brisk walking improves your quality of sleep. You will go to sleep easier and sleep longer. Getting up well-rested is an excellent way to start your day. It can help you live longer. When you add up all the benefits of walking, it can mean a longer and healthier life. It can help ease your joint pain, which we should greatly appreciate as we age. Keep those joints working. Daily walking strengthens our ability to keep walking well, which helps prevent us from falling. Now, don't you think the benefits of walking overrule the excuses every time? Doing good things for your body every day can make such a difference. Exercise, fresh air, and sunshine are a winning combination. With the current craziness and stressful events in the world, we all need to do something good for ourselves. So lace up those walking shoes, grab your water bottle, and get moving. Swing your arms, bending your elbow slightly, breathe deeply, and enjoy yourself. You're going to feel so much better after your walk. It may not change the world situation, but it will help you deal better with the things going on around you.
